THE SIGNS

When Does Someone Need Addiction Treatment?

Addiction is complex, and it’s a different experience for everyone. However, we do understand the science of addiction. We treat it as the chronic disease that it is, believing that everyone can experience recovery when receiving the right individualized treatment approach.

When someone initially uses an addictive substance, it can trigger a response in their brain. This response activates the reward pathways. Over time there are changes in the brain’s structure and function.

Addiction isn’t a personal failure but something that begins in the brain. Environmental factors also tend to raise the risk of developing an addiction.

The primary sign of addiction is when someone’s substance use is out of control and compulsive. Other things that may become increasingly noticeable include:

  • Continuing to use the substance even though it’s creating negative consequences throughout multiple areas of your daily life.
  • Giving up other interests.
  • Developing a tolerance for the substance requires higher doses to achieve desired effects.
  • Withdrawal symptoms may occur if not using the substance or cutting back.
  • Failed attempts to stop.

Because addiction hijacks the brain, it can seem to loved ones that the person no longer cares about them or their feelings. Substance use has become a means of survival for the person at that point, which is why treatment is so important.

THE BENEFITS

Effectively Treating Addiction

Different therapeutic approaches can help someone begin their recovery from addiction, but at the core has to be an individualized understanding of who they are and their needs. A one-size-fits-all approach to addiction treatment isn’t going to be effective, and that’s something we understand and take seriously in our programs.

A treatment plan should address the physical, emotional, social, and psychological needs of a person, as well as their use of substances.

Generally, treatment can occur in an inpatient or outpatient facility, with different intensity levels available.

Broadly, some of the different types of treatments include:

These flexible programs deliver a sense of autonomy and accountability for your recovery. You continue your daily life while receiving important supportive and therapeutic services. An outpatient program could be a good fit for someone with a shorter-term or milder substance use disorder or who has already completed a more intensive care level.

Intensive outpatient programs require a moderate weekly time commitment, but you continue living at home. This is a higher intensity level than an outpatient rehab. At ARTS IOP, our intensive outpatient programs usually last four to 12 weeks, and you may receive 9-25 hours of treatment weekly. This includes a combination of group and individual therapy, with group therapy focused on life and coping skills.

A PHP is considered moderately intensive and usually requires a full day of treatment programs, but you continue to live at home. These programs are sometimes known as day treatment, and they can simultaneously address co-occurring mental health disorders, which is dual diagnosis treatment. Our PHPs include a full day of treatment most days of the week, including group and individual therapy, education groups, mental health treatment, and alternative treatment approaches.

Inpatient programs are high-intensity and residential, meaning you live onsite for a period of time that can range from a month to a year, depending on your needs and the center. You might come to ARTS IOP after you’ve completed one of these programs as you continue building on the skills you learned.

Treatment may include a combination of counseling and therapy, and medicines for certain types of substance use disorders. Opioids and alcohol are two substances with approved medications to help treat cravings and withdrawal symptoms. These medications are meant to be combined with mental and behavioral health care.

While we aren’t a Beverly Hills drug and alcohol rehab center, we are nearby in the Los Angeles area and work with clients from the area to help them achieve their goals and work toward a life of recovery.

WE ARE HERE FOR YOU

Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders

When comparing programs offering drug rehab in Beverly Hills and nearby, the availability of dual diagnosis treatment is critical.

It’s very common to have a co-occurring mental health disorder if you’re struggling with addiction. The mental health disorder could have contributed to your addiction, or substance use could worsen the symptoms. Either way, dual diagnosis treatment addresses your substance use and your mental health at the same time. Not effectively treating both conditions puts you at a greater risk of relapsing.

An option if you’re seeking drug rehab in Beverly Hills, at ARTS IOP, we take into consideration the science of substance use and mental health. At the same time, we also understand the human element that comes with your challenges.
