When to Find Help

Signs It’s Time to Seek Prescription Drug Treatment

Prescription medications are meant to help, but when use turns into misuse, the line can blur quickly. You might not even realize how much things have changed until your daily routine, relationships, or health start to feel off balance. That’s often how prescription drug addiction begins—quietly and unintentionally. Common signs that it might be time to consider prescription drug treatment include:

  • Needing higher doses to get the same effect
  • Running out of prescriptions early or “doctor shopping” for refills
  • Feeling anxious or irritable when you don’t have the medication
  • Hiding your use or lying about how much you take
  • Struggling to focus at school or work, maintain relationships, or take care of responsibilities
  • Using the medication in any ways other than prescribed (e.g., to relax, escape, or get energized)
  • Physical symptoms like drowsiness, insomnia, weight changes, or mood swings

If any of this sounds familiar, it doesn’t mean you’ve failed. It means your body and brain have adapted to the medication—and now it’s time to reset with the right help. Early intervention is key. The sooner you reach out for substance abuse treatment, the easier it is to break the cycle and prevent more serious consequences.

How We Help

What to Expect from Prescription Drug Treatment

Prescription drug treatment isn’t one-size-fits-all. Effective care starts with understanding where you are in your journey and building a plan that meets your needs, whether you’re just starting to recognize a problem or looking for support after a relapse.

Usually, treatment begins with a medical assessment to understand the level of care you need. Some people may require detox to safely manage withdrawal symptoms, especially if they’ve been using opioids or benzodiazepines. After that, therapy becomes the cornerstone of recovery—individual counseling, group therapy, and education that help you rebuild your life and prevent relapse.

The most successful programs also focus on relapse prevention—teaching you how to manage cravings, deal with stress in healthy ways, and develop a long-term support system that keeps you grounded.

At ARTS IOP, we specialize in outpatient prescription drug treatment that fits into your life while still offering real structure and support. With options like Partial Hospitalization (PHP), Intensive Outpatient (IOP), and traditional outpatient care, you can receive professional, evidence-based help without stepping away from your responsibilities. We also offer evening virtual IOP programs, making treatment accessible regardless of your schedule or location.

From day one, our team works with you to build an individualized care plan that addresses both substance use and any underlying mental health concerns.

What We Offer

Levels of Care at ARTS IOP

In the San Fernando Valley, ARTS IOP is a trusted Los Angeles-based provider of outpatient mental health and substance abuse treatment. Whether you’re just starting recovery or looking for continued support after a higher level of care, ARTS IOP offers several flexible programs designed to meet you exactly where you are.

We know that prescription drug treatment isn’t a one-step process. Recovery unfolds over time, and having the right level of support can make all the difference. That’s why we offer a full continuum of care:

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

Our PHP is the most structured and intensive option we offer outside of residential rehab. It’s ideal for individuals who need a high level of care—such as those coming out of detox or inpatient treatment—but still want the flexibility of living at home or in a sober living environment. PHP runs Monday through Friday, from 9 AM to 3 PM, offering full-day programming that includes individual therapy, group sessions, skill-building workshops, and psychiatric support. It’s especially helpful for people managing both substance use and co-occurring mental conditions like depression, anxiety, or trauma.

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

IOP is a step down from PHP and offers a more flexible schedule that can be adjusted to fit around work, school, or family obligations. Most clients in IOP attend treatment 3–5 days per week, with programming ranging from 9 to 25 hours weekly, depending on individual needs. This level of care still includes group and individual therapy, relapse prevention planning, and mental health support—but with a greater focus on helping clients reintegrate into daily life while maintaining a strong recovery foundation. ARTS IOP also offers evening virtual IOP tracks for both substance use and mental health, which are available nationwide via telehealth.

Outpatient Treatment

For those who have already developed a stable foundation in recovery, our standard outpatient program provides ongoing support and accountability. This is ideal for clients who may have completed PHP or IOP and are looking for a way to stay connected to care as they return to everyday responsibilities.Outpatient rehab typically involves weekly or bi-weekly therapy sessions with an emphasis on long-term wellness, relapse prevention, and managing any lingering mental health symptoms.

Chrysalis Sober Living

If you need a safe, stable place to live while going through prescription drug treatment, ARTS IOP partners with Chrysalis Sober Living in West Hills. This co-ed sober living home provides a supportive environment with 10 beds (7 male, 3 female), dedicated house managers, and included transportation. It’s a great option for individuals who don’t have a drug-free home environment or simply want to immerse themselves in recovery.

At Absolute Recovery Therapeutic Solutions, we believe in caring for the whole individual. We offer customized recovery services for every client and have caring, talented staff.

Care to Meet You Where You Are At

Virtual Options for Prescription Drug Treatment

Not everyone can rearrange their life to attend treatment in person, but that shouldn’t be a barrier to getting help. Whether you’re balancing work, school, and family responsibilities or simply living in an area without nearby services, virtual care can offer the structure and support you need to start recovering.

ARTS IOP offers virtual Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) for both substance disorders and mental health concerns. These tracks are designed with flexibility in mind and are available to clients across all 50 states, as long as their insurance covers telehealth benefits.

Our East Coast virtual IOP runs on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 3:00 to 5:45 PM PST, while the West Coast track meets on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 6:00 to 8:45 PM PST. These evening hours are especially helpful for those who work during the day or prefer to engage in treatment from the comfort of home.

Virtual programs at ARTS IOP follow the same evidence-based structure as our in-person care, with group sessions, individual therapy, and access to licensed professionals. It’s a fully interactive experience—just delivered through a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform. For many, virtual prescription drug treatment can be a lifeline—providing real help, real connection, and progress without the need for travel or a complete disruption to daily life.

Substance Abuse and Mental Health

Dual Diagnosis and Mental Health Support

Prescription drug addiction rarely exists in a vacuum. Many individuals who struggle with substances like opioids, benzodiazepines, or stimulants also experience underlying mental health conditions—sometimes diagnosed, sometimes not. This is known as dual diagnosis. It’s far more common than many people realize.

From a clinical perspective, substance use and mental health disorders are deeply interconnected. For example, someone with anxiety may start using prescription medications like Xanax to cope with their symptoms, only to develop a dependency over time.

Similarly, a person with depression or trauma histories might turn to opioids or stimulants as a way to escape emotional pain or regain a sense of control. Over time, the brain’s reward system becomes rewired, reinforcing both the substance use and the underlying psychiatric condition.

At ARTS IOP, we take an integrated approach to dual diagnosis treatment because addressing only the addiction or only the mental health concern isn’t enough. Our team of licensed professionals includes therapists, case managers, and psychiatric providers who work together to create a personalized plan that targets both issues at the same time. Treatment combines individual therapy, group counseling, psychiatric support, and trauma-informed care.

We draw from evidence-based modalities like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and mindfulness-based interventions that help clients develop insight, emotional regulation, and long-term coping skills.

Importantly, our programming is trauma-informed, meaning we recognize the role that unresolved trauma often plays in both substance use and mental health struggles. Clients are never forced to confront trauma before they’re ready. That said, we do create a safe space for healing when the time comes.

Every person’s experience with prescription drug treatment is different, and that’s why we prioritize individualized treatment planning. Whether your symptoms are mild or more complex, our clinical team meets you where you are and adjusts your care as you progress in our drug rehab
